Match report - Tony Mead
The under 14 girls team travelled to Sheppey RFC unaware of what test their opponents would prove to be. A cluster of three teams all relatively new was an unknown. After the first 20 seconds it looked like l we could be in for a tough time as their captain drove down the wing falling short of the try line but darts defence stood strong and kept them out. 10 seconds later Darts were down the other end of the pitch scoring what was to be the first of many tries. Lily-May was the first on the score sheet. Closely followed by two tries each for both Amelia and Elizabeth, both returning after being unavailable for the Dartford Valley game. GAS didn't want to contest the breakdown, possibly hoping to get the ball back from our mistakes, but our hands were perfect today allowing us to roll through multiple phases with quick pick and goes. Talia and Sophie ended the fist half with tries of their own. 3 excellent conversions from Joanie made the score 41-0 at half time.
The opposition kept their heads up and you could see they wanted to keep fighting so credit has to be given to them. At this point most teams opt to mix the teams up and have a friendly game but they didn't back down and some of the tackling was ferocious. Unfortunately they never got much possession as Darts girls continued their faultless play in the second half.
Further excellent tries from Amelia (getting her hat trick), Molly (at the 2nd attempt!) Aoife, Belle, Lillie, Lucy and one more for Talia along with a superb conversion from Elizabeth and then 3 more from Joanie completed a great day out for the girls.
Thanks go to GAS for hosting us on a day perfect for playing rugby and good luck to them for their future waterfall games.
Couple of mentions... Aimee made her debut at the start of this season and has progressed well making lots of carries. Yesterday she looked like she's been playing for years and has fitted into the team with ease. Joslyn also made her debut for us yesterday with a few great runs and we look forward to her getting some more game time with us soon. Congratulations to both of them. Two great additions to our squad.
Evie was the opposition and coaches forward of the match yesterday.
Lillie scooped the opposition back of the match award and the coaches also nominated Talia as joint winner.
Hard to single out anyone after such a dominant performance but congrats to those as well. COYD!!
Next up for Darts will be Old Alleynians on 24th November where we hope to maintain our winning
