Match Report: Medway U16 Girls vs Dartfordians U16 Girls - Kent Cup Final

Reporter Nick Tremain.

Sunday, March 30th, 2025, will go down as a defining moment in Dartfordians Rugby Club history. For the first time since the birth of girls' rugby at the club, Dartfordians U16 Girls have completed an unprecedented Kent League and Kent Cup double—a feat never before achieved by any Dartfordians girls' side.

In a dominant display, the team secured a 36-5 victory over Medway in the Kent Cup Final, cementing their status as the premier team in the county. This win, following an already stellar season where they claimed the London & South East Regional title, marks them as one of the most formidable sides ever produced by the club.

A Final to Remember
From the moment the whistle blew at the final, Dartfordians were relentless. Medway, fresh from a commanding 53-15 semi-final victory over Tonbridge Juddians, were expected to provide a stern test. But Dartfordians showed their intent early, with Tiff crossing for the opening try after a powerful break from Anna. Amelia and Ola followed with brilliant solo efforts, and by halftime, Dartfordians had stormed to a 22-0 lead, leaving Medway shell-shocked.

The second half was no different. Chloe V and Miley extended the lead, and despite a late Medway try, there was never any doubt—Dartfordians were the superior team. Their defensive resilience, attacking dynamism, and sheer determination ensured their place in the history books.

A Battle Played in True Rugby Spirit
While the final scoreline reflected Dartfordians’ dominance, Medway proved themselves worthy finalists. They played with heart, determination, and a true fighting spirit that embodies everything great about girls’ rugby. Their resilience never wavered, and even in the face of a relentless Dartfordians attack, they continued to battle until the final whistle.

More importantly, the game was played in the true spirit of rugby—physical, competitive, yet full of respect. Medway pushed Dartfordians to perform at their best, and both teams left the field with mutual admiration, proving that rugby is more than just a game; it's a community.

A Journey of Perseverance and Triumph
This historic double is the result of years of hard work, development, and belief. Since the birth of girls' rugby at Dartfordians, many talented players have come through the ranks, but never before has a team reached these heights. This group of players have raised the bar and set a new standard for future generations.

They have not only dominated their county but also proven their credentials at a national level. Just weeks ago, they reached the National Cup semi-finals, falling short against a formidable Dings Crusaders side. That setback only strengthened their resolve to finish the season as Kent’s best—and they did so in emphatic fashion.

A Moment to Cherish
As the final whistle blew, emotions ran high. The first-ever Kent League and Cup champions had done what no Dartfordians girls' team had ever done before. The celebrations were well deserved, the pride immeasurable.

This is more than just a cup win—it’s a statement. Dartfordians U16 Girls have etched their names in club history, inspiring not only their teammates but every young girl who dreams of playing rugby in the maroon and gold.
